Wireless electric car chargers to be installed on Britain's streets

Soon electric car owners across Greater London, the Midlands and Scotland will be treated to a trial of cutting-edge induction pads that will allow them to charge their cars wirelessly. This will be implemented in places such as residential streets, taxi ranks and car parks.

Theses pads which will be sunken into the ground, work by emitting an alternating electromagnetic field which can be converted into charge for the vehicle when parked over it. This technology takes away the need to have annoying cables and unattractive charging points scattered about the streets.

Most electric vehicles already on the road can have a wireless charger fitted and a lot of future models being released in the upcoming months will come with them fitted as a standard feature.

These wireless induction kits will get Britain up at the forefront of electric charging for vehicles, infrastructure hasn’t been keeping up and local authorities have been under pressure to have wireless charging points installed.

Shortages of kurb-side charge points for low emission cars is already a concern and those that have already been installed are susceptible to being damaged or vandalized as well as people complaining they clutter up the streets.

These will be the first wireless charging pad of their kind available to UK private car owners and will be trailed shortly, and deploying internationally somewhere in the middle of 2020.
