How to get your vehicle ready for summer

Summer is now upon us and now is the perfect time to get your car looking good again! After months of driving in poor weather conditions – check these to-dos off the list and get your car summer ready!

Ensure that you have removed your snow tyres and replaced them with summer or all-season ones. If you continue to run on winter tyres they tend to wear more quickly. Once the temperature rises above 7°, it's time to put on your summer or all-season tyres.

Consider changing your wiper blades. Much like winter tyres, winter wiper blades are constructed from different rubber than summer ones and subsequently can wear quicker. Replace them if they are not cutting it!

Maybe one of the most important points in the list – check your Air Conditioning! As we all know driving around in a very hot car can be uncomfortable, but also dangerous. Check your A/C to ensure it is functioning properly and if you hear some weird sounds or maybe the air is a little warmer than it should be you might have to get the system checked out by a professional.

Put the brakes on! Brakes can get worn out over the winter months particularly when the traffic is a little more stop-and-go than the summer months. Get your brakes checked when you swap out your winter tyres.

Keep your coolant cool. Ensure that your coolant level and the chemical mixture is correct. You can either do this by yourself or get a professional to take a look at it for you.

Get up your oil. If you are due for a quick oil change, consider changing it at the point when you remove your snow tyres.

Re-fill the windshield washer fluid with a summer formula. Also next time you fill it up consider using a streak-free formula that removes tar, insects, and other grime.

Have a pre-summer tune-up! You might be surprised just how many of these little niggles can be taken care of in one visit to your local dealership or mechanic. Check if any package deals include most of the items such as brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, and also inspections of the engine and exhaust system. don't forget to get them to check some of the electrical components like sensors for example.

Get out your sponge and bucket! Grime and salt can build upon every part of your car. Once the roads get clearer ensure you give your car a thorough clean. Don't forget the undercarriage, wheel wells and, interior mats and also the windows.

Swap your winter mats for summer mats. Whether you use the original mats that can with your car or went for some aftermarket upgrades be sure to only use mats that were specially made for your car. Also, check that they are properly secure to avoid them moving around whilst driving.
